YEAR TWO CONTENT

Year Two develops your understanding of The living Environment, Biological Resources and Sustainability. You’ll explore conditions for life on Earth, biological resource use including agriculture, aquatic systems, and forest preservation. conservation of biodiversity and energy cycles including sustainable development goals and carbon footprints. Research methods are embedded throughout, helping you analyse real data and make evidence based decisions about environmental issues.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Environmental Science is assessed through two written exams at the end of the twoyear course, each lasting three hours and worth 50% of the final grade. Questions include multiple‑choice, short answers and extended writing, allowing you to demonstrate both knowledge and critical thinking skills.

Practical skills and fieldwork are essential parts of the course. You’ll learn how to plan investigations, sample environments, analyse data, and evaluate research methods. These skills are assessed through exam questions that reflect real scientific practice and modern environmental research. You will need to complete a practical log book / portfolio of your work as evidence of completion.

This course prepares you for:

  • University degrees in environmental science, biology, geography, ecology, sustainability or environmental management
  • Careers in conservation, renewable energy, climate research, environmental policy or consultancy
  • Apprenticeships or higher level science and environmental courses

It also builds highly transferable skills such as data analysis, problem solving, evaluation and communication, valued by employers in many industries.
