MP backs skills boost by Corby Sixth Form

TCSF MP visit

Local MP Tom Pursglove joined the Corby Town Fund Team for a walk and talk about how the new Corby Sixth Form will offer skills-boosting education to the area.

Quoting the demand from major local employers, Tom welcomed the news that the town centre Corby Sixth Form, which opens in September, will offer A Levels which could prepare people for Advanced Apprenticeships.

“Employers know what they want and they recognise they have to help, which means they want to reach out and work with education providers,”

said Tom on a site visit on Friday February 3rd with councillors and more.

A range of educational routes

Engineering and other STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects were very much part of the plan of The Bedford College Group which is behind The Corby Sixth Form.

Deputy CEO of The Bedford College Group Pat Jones said:

“‘One of the skills in demand at the moment is engineering. There are a number of ways into engineering including Apprenticeships, BTECS, T Levels and Higher Education, these are already offered at Tresham College.

“Introducing A Levels through the new Sixth Form will sit alongside these other routes, providing an excellent range of educational routes for Corby.”

Head of Sixth Forms Helen Smith told the gathered:

“Our Bedford Sixth Form has a track record working with Russell Group and Oxbridge universities, those pathways will be open to those here in Northamptonshire.”
